Volunteering and giving back have been instilled in my lifestyle since I was a kid. There are a number of things I know I am passionate about. Working as a special needs teacher and now in mental health, I find it important that we all become as informed as we can.
Check out these organizations. Do some research and make informed decisions. I hope those that can, join in on the initiatives, consider being members, or volunteer for these groups. When purchasing a product from TRC, you get to pick where a 10% donation goes. You can also support environmental clean-ups that I sponsor. Just write in your choice during check-out. Featured organizations will change periodically. THANK YOU!

Coastal Watch is a group of Sanibel and Captiva community members who cherish the ocean, appreciate the rich history of our region, and are determined to conserve our oceans and estuaries for future generations. The members of Coastal Keepers work actively in our local community to promote healthier and more sustainable ways of interacting with our coastal environment. Our goal is to make people aware of the impacts that humans have on the beaches, water quality, and marine habitats of our region, and to help them become more effective stewards of the ocean.
Coastal Watch carries out locally-based conservation initiatives and programs to promote marine conservation. We recognize that marine conservation is a global need, but we focus our efforts locally. We support organizations at state and national levels, but our emphasis is to execute projects that enhance our immediate community and environment. Our hope is that, by setting a strong, effective example, our actions will motivate others to engage in conservation in their own hometowns. www.sancapcoastalwatch.org |

Dave Fons Memorial Fund for the Advocacy of Truck Safety is a nonprofit organization created in order to carry on the legacy of Dave Fons' commitment to truck safety through advocacy and education. In 2017, Dave Fons, a Michigan resident, was involved in a fatal automobile accident while visiting his son and his family in Fort Myers, Florida. Dave was driving a compact vehicle when he was fatally hit by a fully loaded dump truck that failed to yield to a red light. Dave was a long-time business owner in the construction and aggregate industry, thus it was truly ironic that his life ended the way it did. In the wake of his death, his family founded the Dave Fons Memorial Fund to help other families in their position, as well as prevent other tragedies like this from occurring.
Each year, the Dave Fons Memorial Fund hosts a golf tournament in Michigan and a fishing tournament in Florida to raise funds to support their three-part mission. First, the organization provides resources and support to survivors and families affected by truck-related accidents. Second, they work towards promoting greater truck safety through advocacy, professional education, and raising awareness of the risks that trucks may pose on roadways. Third, they promote construction-related education through the Dave Fons Memorial Fund Scholarship Program.
